Procrastination

Yes that's the word. It goes with that song by Rod Steward Infatuation
I'm thinking of lyrics right now. I can't get the suede hat done which means I can't get the scarf started. UUGH but on the bright side of life, I warped another knitter by teaching her how to spin! Cooler than cool and she paid me in chocolate. It don't get better than this!.

The way I knit...

Knitters. What an opinionated group they are. Continental method only. Wooden needles are better. Acrylic? Good lord no. And the worst of all... "Your knitting wrong " a close cousin of "You can't knit that way!"
Yesterday I met a lady at work who knits, but a local teacher told her she'd have to relearn how to because she's doing it all wrong. She was told she would never be able to read or knit a pattern.

What a bunch of malarky! The only thing she was doing was twisting her stitches. So I showed her how not to and then taught her to purl all in 5 minutes. Why would anyone do such a thing?
To get her to pay for classes? Because the teacher can't teach any other way? The same thing I was told. Guess what I hold my working yarn and gaining needle in my left hand. I knit thru the back of all my stiches, and I throw the yarn.
I also have been teaching a complete newbie to knit. She was so excited, she went out and bought size 11 straight aluminum needles and a ball of redheart yarn the first night. She was practicing before I left work today.
That is what it's all about. Not the money, or the prestige. The lighting up of "I got it!" seeing their enthusiasm and their pride.

We have also run into several yarn snobs in our time. But being a hand spinner and dye-r I can make anything that they can purchase. My pride is that I win awards for making the yarn, they get a fat bill. I get state wide recognition, they get the envy of a few friends (most of which who don't knit). I get to say I made that from scratch, yup spun the yarn and everything. They get to say..... Yeah well, you get the picture.

What a week!

Today in the wonderful world of Snarled Yarn is a summary of the last 3 days.

Monday-The accursed purse is finished, we do a small dance of joy and launch full steam into the hat. Found an old disaster, my first triangular shawl and figured that blocking would fix 99.9% of the disaster. I can now mark that off my list :)

Tuesday- My wallet is lost for 2 hours. The purse is delivered and payed for. (Then I lost 20.00 of the money)

The hat was measured at an 18 inch circ on the customers head and it's a good thing too! knitting meeting went fine, used my gift card to buy 5 balls of 2 dollar yarn, in blue for a baby blanket. (And later on 5 more in red for myself.) Found out my seven year old fried my keyboard, lucky I had a spare.....

Wed- got 1/2 a ton of laundry done, knitted 1/4 of an afgan, decided blue yarn will go into afgan and baby blanket will be made of another blue yarn. We got Cable in 3 rooms today and 2 new phones as well as a better cell plan. Continued the three month search for living room furniture. (OMG will that NEVER end?) Blogged and posted photos.
Whew!

The purse, The hat and The knitter

We shall start with the accused purse. This purse that I worked on, knitting for 8 hours (in seed stitch), the lining and assembly that took me 5 hours, the redo-ing of the zipper that will drive me nuts! I was so proud of the purse. It was my best friend, my greatest accomplishment. And then I got to know the purse. The zipper that stuck, the hand stitching that showed, the lining that bulked, the weave ins that wouldn't stay.
Let me just say, I hate finishing projects because I'm not good at it, and I've never done a lining and zipper before so these are my first attempts. We are not amused. To cope with this huge letdown, we have begun to knit the hat of many colors. It is fun! It is new! It is not the cursed purse that was on my mind at 4:00 this morning and would not let me sleep!
The hat is easy. Colored loops of yarn adorn my wrists as I walk and knit, no bag needed.( Just scissors now and then) It is pretty and draws lots of attention. We have great hopes for the hat. Purse? What purse?

How did that get in there? No, no this is the one we like...

Isn't it precious? We likes it, not like that tricksy purse, no.
Ahem.
Well, got to go, just thought of a way to fix that darned thing, so....
Toodles!
